In reference to the letter “Dropped the Ball” [Letters, March 18]: The Southampton Fire Department chief’s office will not comment on specific internal personnel matters, especially as it pertains to health care information, including the vaccinations. The department administration has been exploring, and will continue to explore, every avenue we legally can to find vaccinations for firefighters in this department.

The safety and well-being of the membership is the No. 1 priority of the administration. The volunteer fire service was challenged this year to an extreme, and the volunteer fire service in Southampton stood up to the challenge. Having a record-shattering call volume during 2020, the Southampton Fire Department has maintained 100 percent operational capacity over the last year during this pandemic.

I am proud of every firefighter in this department for their selfless devotion to the safety of this community.
