Sheila McBride James of Westhampton Beach and Villanova, Pennsylvania, died on Tuesday, September 2. She was 58.

Born on March 27, 1950, in New York City to Barbara O’Connor and Joseph A. McBride, she was a graduate of Convent of Sacred Heart in Greenwich, Connecticut, and was an active member of its alumnae association. She also earned a bachelor’s degree in art history from the University of Colorado.

An avid golfer, she was a member of Gulph Mills Country Club in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, where she was club champion and a team member. She was a lifetime member of the Westhampton Country Club where she was a four-time club champion, and was a member of U.S. Women’s Seniors Golf Association. She was also a lifetime member of the Swordfish Beach Club, her family having been one of the club’s original owners.

Ms. James was a member of Katherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church in Wayne, Pennsylvania, and the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Quiogue.

She was a supporter of Operation Smile and the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, and also served in several environmental organizations, including the Sierra Club and the Wilderness Club.

She is survived by her husband, David Dundas James; two daughters, Michelle McBride James and Mary Kathryn James; and three brothers, Terence A. McBride of Franklin Lakes, New Jersey, Michael X. McBride of Ridgewood, New Jersey, and Mark J. McBride of Madison, New Jersey.

A wake was held at Follett and Werner Funeral Home in Westhampton Beach on September 5. A funeral service was held on September 6 at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Quiogue; interment followed at Westhampton Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Sheila McBride James Caddy/Staff Scholarship Fund, Westhampton Country Club, 35 Potunk Lane Westhampton Beach, NY 11978 would be appreciated by the family.

Hampton Bays School District residents will be asked to vote for a $67,495,698 budget for the 2025-26 school year on Tuesday, May 20.
