Recent statistics for the South Fork Commuter Connection — train service provided by the Long Island Rail Road to commuters in the Hamptons — show ridership has exceeded expectations since March, but ridership on the connecting shuttle buses has dropped when compared to a pilot program conducted 10 years ago when the bus was free. State Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele Jr. is proposing to drop the $1 charge to ride the shuttle bus as part of the South Fork Commuter Connection, dropping the price to $3.25 instead of $4.25. GREG WEHNER
