Susan Sargent passed away peacefully on November 28, 2024 after a long and difficult bout with Frontotemporal Degeneration (FTD). Susan was born on November 30, 1950, to John and Mary Sargent. Susan attended Bronxville High School and earned her bachelor’s degree from Smith College in 1972. Susan went on to receive her Master of Business Administration from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania where she concentrated in healthcare finance and administration. It was through this program that she met her beloved husband, Mitchell Goldman, and together they started their healthcare consulting business, GLS Associates. After the successful acquisition of GLS Associates by Chi Systems, Susan went on to serve as Vice President of Advisory Services at Array Healthcare Facilities Solutions (a full service architecture firm), and then decided to build her own consulting firm, Sargent Healthcare Management Advisors.

Susan was a nationally recognized leader in expanding the health insurance coverage for behavioral health services working with many of the nation’s leading systems and advising many of the state and federal policy leaders. She was a prolific writer on behavioral health care issues, and an expert witness on developing state legislation to expand insurance coverage for mental health. Susan was an active board member and officer of the Wharton Healthcare Management Alumni Club.

When not working, Susan enjoyed nothing more than spending time with her family at their home in Quogue, New York, traveling to visit her grandchildren in Oakland, California for Halloween, and regular weekend visits with her grandchildren in Manhattan. She loved a good pun, a crossword puzzle, scrabble, a Louis Black stand-up comedy routine, and Philadelphia sports. Among many other things, Susan will be remembered for her sense of humor, her ability to do it all, and her endless patience and love for her family.

She is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, C. Mitchell Goldman, her daughter Jenna Goldman, Jenna’s husband, Justin Manus, their sons Graham and Eli Manus; her son, Andrew Goldman, his wife Renee Goldman, and their sons Jacob and Jonah Goldman; her brother, Michael Sargent and his wife, Lisa Sargent, her brother, John Sargent, and his wife, Lynn Sargent, and her sister, Elizabeth “Betsy” Grogan.

A memorial service for Susan will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations in Susan’s name can be made to:

The Future’s Bright

The future of journalism is in good hands, if the members of the Springs School Journalism Club are any indication. The Express News Group was happy to welcome a handful of members of the club to our Southampton office on Friday to show them what we do and encourage them in their collective journey into the field. They needed little encouragement. The middle school kids were enthusiastic, engaged, and ready to soak up whatever bits of wisdom the Express staff shared with them. And we put them to work — the club members came to the office with a series ... 22 Jan 2025 by Editorial Board

Money Matters

Smart government includes the development of new sources of revenue to avoid lofty tax increases and cover growing bottom lines, while still trying to improve services and infrastructure across the board. And in Sag Harbor, the Village Board of Trustees has been trying to do just that — increase funding, including, most recently, implementing a paid parking program that may be unpopular, but has the potential to raise a significant amount of revenue on an annual basis for years to come. Another proposal, introduced during a Sag Harbor Chamber of Commerce meeting earlier this month, would increase fees for organizers ... by Editorial Board
