Take The Lead

I understand that Southampton Village is considering creating a charging station for electric vehicles. I want to voice my support of such an idea, both because it will be a profit center for the village — which is always helpful — but it also sends a message of support for alternative energy sources.

Alternative energy is no passing trend or fad. Without it we will not be able to make the changes that will ultimately protect our planet.

As a longtime resident — and huge fan — of Southampton Village, I am completely in support of us making a statement about alternative energy, and perhaps we can even do more.

Most of us have second cars, and perhaps having a convenient charging station in the village also will influence East End residents to chose an EV as their second or beach car. Who knows, maybe little solar panels will start popping up everywhere in the village to provide energy. Or perhaps buckets will be available at all the beaches, which will make it even more convenient for beach cleanups as part of our regular beach walks. Wouldn’t that all be terrific?

There’s so much that we as individuals can do to act responsibly toward protecting our planet. I would love to see Southampton Village lead in that direction. I know that Mayor Jesse Warren has very progressive ideas, and I hope he finds a way to make all of this possible.
