Terese A. “Terry” Wouters of Hampton Bays died on May 29 from natural causes. She was 92.
Ms. Wouters was born in a house on Main Street in East Quogue on January 4, 1928 to Elizabeth and Austin Carter.
She married Arthur Langsdorf Jr. and had three daughters, Linda Hatcher (Robert-deceased), Terri Klager (Frank Mineo) and Peggi Booth (Kenneth). She later married George Wouters and had two more daughters, Georgi DePasquale (Louis) and Elizabeth Wouters (deceased).
Before Ms. Wouters was able to graduate from high school, she had to go work at Republic Aviation during World War II to help support her family.
She was a founding member of Christ Our Saviour Lutheran Church in Hampton Bays, where she taught nursery school for many years and continued to be an active member for the remainder of her life.
In the 1970s she was a co-owner of the The Coach in Hampton Bays and served many friends and community members with not only a drink but with a joke or two, her family recalled. After the business was sold, Ms. Wouters started her own cleaning company, which her family said she enjoyed. She finally settled into retirement when the last of her grandchildren were born.
Ms. Wouters’s interests included camping with her family, bowling, watching NASCAR racing and the Yankees, as well as singing her favorite bible songs. She was quick-witted and made everyone laugh and smile wherever she went, her family said.
She was predeceased by her brothers and sister, Vernon Carter, Rodney Carter and Marie McNulty.
In addition to her daughters, she is survived by her sister Audrey Hogge of East Quogue. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Ramona Kuroski (Robert), Robin Hatcher, Kenneth Booth, Jr. (Susan), Kevin Booth, Rene Klager, Kaylee Wouters-Hatcher, Nicole and Lauren DePasquale; as well as her great-grandchildren, Kathryn, Thomas and Megan Kuroski, Austin Shimer and Allison Booth, and Ethan Booth; as well as many nieces, nephews, close friends and neighbors. She was considered a mother by many, her family said.
An outdoor memorial service will be held in the near future at Christ Our Saviour Lutheran Church, 9 Terrace Drive, Hampton Bays. For further details, contact Scott Rothwell Funeral Home or a family member.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christ Our Saviour Lutheran Church, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
