Once again, East Quogue residents find themselves at the mercy of “outsiders” whose interests may not align with theirs. Whether it be The Hills, stripped of all developer-proposed amenities beneficial to East Quogue; a plan for an unnecessary convenience store/gas station complex in the middle of town; or now an ill-conceived scheme to build a condominium complex at the Dockers site, one of the most scenic bay-side stretches of Dune Road — crucial decisions about East Quogue that more rightly belong to local residents most affected are again being made by officials of the Town of Southampton whose agendas and motivations may differ from ours.
How unfortunate it is that the effort to incorporate East Quogue as a village, an act that would have given us significantly greater say-so and control over the fate of our hamlet, was defeated by a misguided Civic Association campaign in opposition. Maybe it’s time to try again!
Sometimes it just takes a village.

It’s a good thing that Congressman Nick LaLota wasn’t conducting a town hall when he penned “Position Unchanged” [Letters, December 4] claiming that he was always all for releasing the Epstein files. Otherwise, it might have been hard to keep...
