Unpatriotic

We thought we dodged a bullet when 7 million more Americans voted for Joe Biden than Donald Trump. We thought we dodged another bullet on January 6, when the violent attempt to overturn the will of the people was thwarted.

But it turns out that American democracy is still very much in the crosshairs, at the mercy of Republicans who have decided they don’t like what the American people had to say, and are now laying the groundwork to subvert future elections.

In an effort as legislatively violent as the Capitol assault was physically violent, 43 Republican-led state legislatures are using Trump’s thoroughly discounted “Big Lie” of election fraud to introduce (and pass) more than 250 voter suppression bills. Georgia is leading the way, having made headlines with the surreal “it’s now a crime to give water to a person waiting in line to vote.”

It is crucial that we the people make our voices heard — again — and insist on upholding the right of all American citizens to vote.

The For the People Act, which would block voter suppression efforts, has already been passed in the House (Lee Zeldin voted no) and is currently in the Senate. Call our Democratic U.S. senators and let them know you stand with them in supporting this important legislation.

And let Lee Zeldin know that voting against the For the People Act was unpatriotic — almost as unpatriotic as his vote to overturn the election results on January 6, mere hours after the deadly insurrection.
