Useless Durak

In a recent post, Ed Surgan paraphrased an article he claims was from Newsday about the “No Kings” rally: “Demonstrators were concerned with cuts to Medicare, government job cuts and free speech. While the first two may be legitimate differences over policy, they pose no threat to democracy.”

Here is an actual quote from Newsday: “Thousands of protesters at more than a dozen locations from Port Washington to East Hampton rallied Saturday to denounce what they view as an increasingly authoritarian regime under the Trump administration. … Dozens of protesters interviewed in Mineola, Port Jefferson and Patchogue voiced concern over looming health care cuts, escalating immigration raids conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the prosecution of perceived political opponents, and government overreach.”

Mr. Surgan’s post is actually an attempt with sophistry to “own the libs.” He implies expertise on our Constitution and free speech, and solicits a “discussion” about these issues with any Democrat. Next, we are told how bad the Democrats have been on solving and making worse many of the issues our country faces. Using the disapprobation of “woke” ideology and “authoritarian” enforcement,” Mr. Surgan asserts that Dems are responsible for our loss of free speech.

Apparently, Mr. Surgan’s expertise has traveled to encompass the legal systems and free speech history of Britain and Germany. He asserts, “Arrest for politically incorrect speech exists this very moment in Britain and Germany.”

A term first used to make one aware of systemic inequalities and discrimination, “woke” is now used to scorn any attempt to solve problems deemed inappropriate by the right. And we know the right believe they may not always be right, but they are never wrong.

Mr. Surgan then uses this for a presidential callout. “As I see it, this administration has been so uncommonly skilled at its governance that it has stunned Democrats accustomed to leadership that has accomplished so little. In less than a year, America again leads the free world. In less than 30 days, our border was secure and we have abandoned the climate madness that had misdirected our entire economy.”

He really wrote that.

Mr. Surgan does not realize that TDS now refers to the dwindling band of duraks (“fools”) following President Donald Trump. Let me remind him that applying the Russian solution of hospitalization to any thought deemed incorrect is scary, even if Mr. Surgan thinks he is being ironic, or funny.

Mr. Surgan not being a senior member of this administration does not lie. This nonsense is from one of many deranged and arrogant Republicans who believe both that the policy of laissez faire fixes problems and gerrymandering fixes elections.

I propose Mr Surgan as head useless durak of Westhampton.
