Viola Marie Abbey, a true blessing born in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1942. Vi left an extraordinary life behind. She and her beloved husband of 66 years, Butch (Kerwin) Abbey, created a lifetime of love and laughter in their Hampton Bays home, raising their three cherished children for over half a century. Through both joyous occasions and moments of sorrow, Viola’s unwavering love shone brightly.
Viola’s hospitality was legendary, though her approach to cooking was quite low-key. Her famous motto, “ the 3 food groups, frozen, canned, or carryout –” always brought a smile to everyone’s face. Her warmth and genuine spirit touched countless hearts, forging lifelong friendships that she cherished deeply. Her legacy of love continues through her nine grandchildren, who will see her sparkle in the eyes of her eleven great-grandchildren.
Viola always embraced her adventurous spirit, particularly enjoying cruises with family and friends. While she may have preferred the deck of a ship to the back of Butch’s motorcycle, the fact that she indulged his passion speaks volumes about her love. Oh, the stories she would tell of those rides!
Viola is lovingly survived by her devoted husband, Butch (Kerwin) Abbey, and her two daughters, Holly McDermott and Venus Abbey. She is now reunited with her beloved son, Shawn Abbey, who preceded her in passing. She also leaves behind a large and loving circle of family members and dear friends, both those who survive her and those who have gone before.
Celebration of life will be held June 3rd at Villa Paul Restaurant in Hampton Bays from 7:00 till 9:00.
