Nick LaLota the letter writer is not Nick LaLota the congressman who casts votes in the House of Representatives — particularly as it relates to reproductive rights.

On the same day that I read Mr. LaLota’s rebuttal to my letter deploring his abortion stance[“Partisan, Not Candid,” Letters, September 2], I took particular notice of this headline in The New York Times, “G.O.P. Distorts Records on Reproductive Issues.” Yes, that is exactly what the Republican Party is doing, and Mr. LaLota is no exception.

Congressman LaLota is attempting to pass himself off as a “centrist” on abortion, but his voting record in Congress tells a story of being in lockstep with anti-reproductive rights groups. As recently mentioned on this page by my colleague, Andrea Klausner, Nick LaLota received near perfect grades from anti-abortion groups: 100 percent National Right to Life; 100 percent Concerned Women for Legislative Action; and 89 percent Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America.

Nick LaLota voted for Congressman Mike Johnson for Speaker of the House. In 2022, Johnson co-sponsored federal legislation to ban abortion, saying, “We will get the number of abortions to zero.”

As the saying goes, “Watch what they do, not what they say.”
