We Deserve Better

Lee Zeldin’s sycophancy toward Donald Trump is all the evidence that sentient constituents need to know that he is not the person we deserve representing us in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Echoing Trump nearly verbatim, Zeldin said on Twitter that he would “voice objections you & I have regarding confirmed, evidence-filled issues w/ the administration of the 2020 Presidential election in certain battleground states.”

On the floor of the House on January 6, Mr. Zeldin raised the question of “millions of unrequested ballots,” suggesting that this was one form of voter fraud. One quick Google search for “unrequested mail-in ballots” — a task that took literally five seconds — reveals link after link after link refuting this very idea. Sources from CNN, Fox News, The Wall Street Journal, and multiple state and local news outlets all boldly and simply proclaim the same result: Proactive mail-in ballots are no indication of fraud.

Mr. Zeldin has the staff and the time to do this same basic research that I just did. (This is only one example of Mr. Zeldin’s ability to shape his narrative with false pretenses. You wouldn’t have room to print my entire letter if I exhausted that list.)

The 1st District deserves better than Mr. Zeldin. We deserve a stronger, smarter and more independent voice in Washington, D.C., to raise concerns specific to our district, as well as to the nation at large.

The most disappointing aspect of this is that I am certain that Mr. Zeldin has more than enough intelligence to discern truth from lie — he simply lacks the courage to do so publicly.
