Trailing by a single goal, 4-3, at halftime, the East Hampton/Pierson/Bridgehampton/Ross girls lacrosse team couldn’t overtake host Babylon in the second half, suffering a 13-7 loss in its season opener on Saturday. Melina Sarlo scored three goals and assisted on another for the Bonackers. Laura Calderon made 16 saves in goal.
Hailey Cameron, Celia Ginsberg and Paige Garvin all scored in what was the Mariners’ first varsity game in 14 years this past Saturday, but it came in a 12-3 loss at Hauppauge. Southampton went on to lose, 16-0, at home to Islip on Monday.
The Baymen lost their season opener, 18-2, at home on Saturday.
The Westhampton Beach boys lacrosse team began the season with a pair of nonleague victories. After defeating South Fork, 15-2, at home on March 24, the Hurricanes defeated host Lindenhurst, 9-2, this past Saturday. Morgan McEntee tallied six points in the win over South Fork with a pair of goals and four assists. Chance Brindle (two goals, two assists) and Gavin Arcuri (three goals, one assist) each had four points. Arcuri had three goals and two assists in the win at Lindenhurst. McEntee and Dan Naglieri each scored twice in that game, and Jake Dagata made 14 saves in goal for the ’Canes, who didn’t allow a goal after the first quarter.
The Hurricanes picked up a pair of back-to-back nonleague home victories to start their season. After winning their season opener, 15-7, at home over Riverhead on Friday, the ’Canes defeated East Islip, 7-3, the very next day. Olivia Rongo scored four goals and had two assists in the win over Riverhead. Joely Schaumloffel had four assists, and Reese King had three goals and an assist. King and Schaumloffel each scored a pair of goals in the win over East Islip with Rongo totaling four assists. Maya Farnan had 11 and 10 saves, respectively, in each win.
