The Westhampton Beach Fire Department was paged out for a car fire just north of the railroad tracks on Old Riverhead Road at 9:20 p.m. on Wednesday, November 12.
Chief Larry Saccente was first on scene, followed shortly by 2nd Assistant Chief Lewis Scott, according to the department. The vehicle, a small Nissan sedan, was fully engulfed in flames at the time of their arrival.
Engine 3 was on scene in a few minutes, and its crew had the fire extinguished in short order. The department’s tanker and Engine 1 were also on scene.
Fire police and local police closed Old Riverhead Road during the duration of the incident.
The driver stated that the vehicle started burning as she was driving south, the department said. There were no reported injuries, and the cause of the fire is under investigation by the Southampton Town fire marshal.
