What an Evening!

As the mayor of Southampton Village, I would like to take a moment to extend my heartfelt thanks to all those who contributed to the amazing success of our recent Parade of Lights and Tree Lighting event. This cherished tradition, which brings such joy to our community, would not be possible without the dedication and hard work of many individuals and organizations.

Taking place every year on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, this year saw a record crowd of over 4,000 people in our village. And what an evening we had!

A special thanks to Andrew Pilaro, Mark Parash and Julie Fitzgerald of the Christmas Decorations Committee, and the Southampton Chamber of Commerce for their tireless efforts in organizing this year’s festivities.

I would also like to recognize Ann and Ed Yawney, as well as Millie Fellingham, who began this wonderful tradition many years ago. Your vision and commitment have paved the way for countless joyful celebrations for the young and old.

Our gratitude extends to the incredible first responders who participated, bringing holiday cheer with their beautifully decorated fire trucks — from Shelter Island to Manorville, including our very own Southampton Village Fire Department (my personal favorite!), our Southampton Village Volunteer Ambulance Corps and our Southampton Village Police Department: Your presence ensured everyone’s safety.

A huge thank you to the Department of Public Works for their hard work in making the village look like a Norman Rockwell painting, or the set of a Hallmark movie. I must highlight the “Santa Crew” from the Department of Public Works, who hang the iconic Santa Claus and his reindeer and the nostalgic bell over Main Street every year, creating a magical atmosphere for all to enjoy. And thank you to Fowler’s for supplying the full Christmas trees and wreaths that adorn our business district. Even the “newish” streetlights at the northern end of North Sea Road got illuminated wreaths this year.

To the residents of Southampton Village and beyond, thank you for sharing in this special night. Your participation is what makes these events truly memorable.

I also want to express my appreciation to our local businesses, many of which hosted special gatherings and made their shops and restaurants even more inviting for guests attending the parade. Your enthusiasm enriches our community and enhances the holiday spirit. The evening was filled with joy, magic and a sense of unity. Songs performed by the Voices of Southampton High School and the spectacular fireworks display truly made this a night to remember.

Thank you all for your contributions and for making Southampton Village a warm and welcoming place during the holiday season. With all best wishes for the holidays to you and your families.

William Manger Jr.
