Hillary Clinton To Hold At Least Two Fundraisers In Hamptons In August

Hillary Rodham Clinton signs copies of her book at BookHampton in East Hamtpn last year. PRESS FILE
Jul 28, 2015 10:28 AM

UPDATE: Monday 4 p.m.

Ms. Clinton will attend at least two fundraisers for her presidential campaign at private homes in the Hamptons in late August, according to a schedule of her plans sent to supporters this week.

On Saturday, August 22, Ms. Clinton will attend an evening dinner reception at the Water Mill estate of apparel magnate Arthur Rabin.

The following weekend, on August 30, Ms. Clinton will attend a "pancake breakfast" in East Hampton Village, at the home of longtime supporters Susan and Alan Patricof.

The price per plate for seats at a table at either event has not been announced but campaign finance laws would limit contributions to $2,700 per person. The funds raised would go to Ms. Clinton's primary campaign war chest, which campaign managers have said has a target fundraising goal of $100 million.

Sources close to the family said that with the Clintons obviously planning to be on the South Fork for more than a week, there are likely to be more events as well.

Where the Clintons plan to stay while on the South Fork is not yet known. In years past they have rented estates in Sagaponack and Amagansett but have also frequently stayed at the homes of friends and supporters.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Hillary Rodham Clinton will visit the Hamptons late next month for a short vacation and to attend a fundraiser for her presidential campaign.

Multiple sources have said in recent weeks that Ms. Clinton and her husband, former President Bill Clinton, will be vacationing on the South Fork again at some point during the final weeks of August, though not likely for as long as their two-week retreats in recent years, due to Ms. Clinton’s campaign schedule.

“I rather doubt they’ll be renting—she’s fairly busy these days,” said Judith Hope, a longtime friend of the Clintons who lives in East Hampton. “I think they will probably just come out for a weekend. At least that’s my vague understanding.”

Another source close to the Clintons, who asked not to be identified, said the former First Family is expected to stay somewhere in Amagansett. The Clintons rented a house in Amagansett last summer and have rented in Sagaponack in the past as well; they have also stayed as guests at the East Hampton homes of friends like Steven Spielberg and Elie Hirschfeld.

Details about at least one high-dollar fundraiser being held for Ms. Clinton’s campaign during her visit remain vague, though a Democratic Party source says there will be an emphasis on appealing to younger supporters and, of course, those with the deepest pockets.

But the visit, however short it might be, will still be largely about rest and relaxation.

“They come here because they like being here,” the source said. “It’s more for a vacation and to be among friends than for the fundraising.”

Hillary is beatable with the right ticket. IMO the GOP should push for Rubio/Kasich. This would be smart strategy if they are serious about taking the general. Trump needs to shut up quick (good luck) and the way to do that is to challenge him on specifics rather than rhetoric. There's no way Jeb wins a general as the country has had enough of the Bush family. Hillary's only qualified in theory. She can be dissected if the GOP ticket stays on point.

Trump won't last. See Howard Dean, Rick Perry, et al. Peaking now means nothing in terms of garnering enough support to win the primaries. He only appeals to the fringe. Unfortunately that fringe could be enough to swing a general election to Hillary in the event Trump goes Independent. Trump would be a disaster if elected President. Thank goodness that won't ever happen. I'd vote for Hillary before Trump... and I prefer a bucket of slugs over Hillary.

Anyone who has ever had a clearance knows; 1) You never transmit classified material through unsecure means 2) You never discuss classified subjects in unsecure areas 3) You never transmit conversations about classified subjects via personal electronics 4) Doing any or all of the above can and likely will land you in jail. How the press "underestimated" this is no accident. They willfully ignored and distorted the story to try to cover for Hillary. There is a very simple explanation for why a Cabinet Level Secretary deliberately disregarded these rules. She had every intention of using her office in a way that she wanted to be sure would never come to light. Nobody can fail to grasp this.

The right is focusing on Hillary because we hold these truths to be self evident. She's incompetent and has accomplished nothing. Yes, what Huckabee said was perfectly okay. Nothing he said was personalized toward any individual. It was a manner of communicating the seriousness of the deal with Iran (who by the way has sworn to destroy its enemies - "kill all Jews and annihilate Israel" to quote the Ayatollah Ali Khamenei).
By Po Boy (3012), Water Mill on Jul 28, 15 1:00 PM
And, sadly, all things will come to a head after Obama leaves office. The ACA will prove to be unsustainable, but Obama will be out of the office. How about slashing taxes during not one but TWO wars? An act unprecedented in American history, BTW. How about the repeal of Glass-Steagall which reinstated the conflicts of interest in the financial industry which were done away with after the Great Depression? How about the massive financial disaster it led to? And no, mortgages were not the cause. A spike in variable interest rates, ...more

Hear, hear! It's a shame that Allen West, Donald Trump, Ben Carson and Ted Cruz can't ALL stand COLLECTIVELY as the Republican presidential nominee (like four horsemen.) Each so epitomizes the party's values.

Also Jim Webb. Neither have been able to get much coverage with all the nonsense going on in the republican camp. Both good candidates and perhaps better qualified to be president than Hilary.
By bird (735), Sag Harbor on Aug 5, 15 6:23 PM
I like Jim Webb too. But his lack of coverage speaks more to his lack of name recognition and scant financial support, not to mention an increasingly more liberal democrat party that clashes with his conservative side. He's clearly not the democrat darling.

Webb would be a good VP candidate as he may help to get VA's electoral votes.

So Hillary supports the Iran deal? Perhaps she should have listened to the President's speech yesterday. He actually made the argument for being against the deal more appealing. What an inept fool.
The Dems really should consider getting more horses in the race.
