No Leads In Missing Sagaponack Woman Investigation

Despite a plea for help from the family of a missing Sagaponack woman at a press conference held at Southampton Town Police headquarters last week, the ongoing investigation has not yet turned up any new leads as to her whereabouts more than two weeks after her disappearance.

The brothers of 40-year-old Lilia Aucapina, Victor and Carlos Parra, and her niece, Maria Duchi, told reporters on Wednesday, October 21, that Ms. Aucapina would not just walk away from her kids, who are 21 and 14 years old.

“We have no explanation for it,” Victor Parra said, adding that it is a shock that Ms. Aucapina did not return home.

Ms. Duchi thanked the community for helping to distribute fliers, which have been posted in various spots throughout the South Fork. “We just want her back home. That’s what we want,” she said, adding that the family is going through a difficult time.

On October 10, Ms. Aucapina was reported missing by her son, Ronald Aucapina, 12 hours after she was last seen at the Meeting House Medical Practice in Wainscott. Southampton Town Police said that her estranged husband, Carlos Aucapina, had confronted her and a male friend that morning, which was a violation of an order of protection. Mr. Aucapina, 50, had confronted the two and accused the man of having an affair with his soon-to-be-ex-wife. The couple are in the process of divorce proceedings.

Mr. Aucapina was arrested by both the Southampton Town Police and the East Hampton Town Police departments on misdemeanor criminal contempt charges. He is accused of driving past Ms. Aucapina’s house in Sagaponack on his way to confronting her at the medical practice in Wainscott, which therefore constituted a violation of an order of protection in both jurisdictions.

Southampton Town Police have repeatedly said that they have not ruled anyone out as a suspect in Ms. Aucapina’s disappearance, but also are not sure if foul play is involved.

Ms. Duchi said the family remains hopeful. “We’re Christians, and we believe that she’s safe, that’s she’s alive,” she said at the press conference. “We’re a very close family. Our bond is not just any type of family—we look after one another. We just have faith.”

Several different departments have worked together to search for Ms. Aucapina, including the Southampton Town Police Patrol and Detective divisions, East Hampton Town Police Patrol and Detective divisions, Quogue Village Police, Suffolk County Police Aviation, K-9 divisions, New York State Police and K-9 divisions, Suffolk County Sheriffs K-9, the State Department of Environmental Conservation, and New York State Forestry Officers. Soon, the Southampton Town bay constables will search different lake areas, Lt. Kiernan explained.

Anyone with information on Ms. Aucapina’s whereabouts or disappearance is asked to call Town Police at (631) 702-2230, or email crimetips@southamptontownny.gov.

Is there any update? Is her car still here or did she leave it at the meeting house lane medical center parking lot?

"Not sure if foul play is involved." Seriously. Prayers for her family.

Ask the one and only suspect who is notoriously known for his instigation of violent arguments amongst his compatriots...and who has a loooong history of abusing this missing woman - defying his order of protection filed by her against him - including on the very day she went missing. He knows exactly what happened to her. Exactly. Praying for her and her family - yes. What a horror story.
