Thomas H. Bernhardt Jr., a longtime resident of East Quogue, died on January 14, 2018. He was 80 and had Alzheimer’s disease.
Mr. Bernhardt was born in Detroit Michigan, the son of Thomas H. Bernhardt and Betty Bernhardt, both of whom predeceased him. He served in the United State Coast Guard from 1955 to 1980, retiring as as a CWO4 Boson. Survivors said he was proud of serving in the Coast Guard and sailed to both the North Pole and Antarctica.
Mr. Bernhardt is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jean; his two sons, Thomas H. Bernhardt III (Susan), Anthony J. Bernhardt (Julia and daughters, Kristina and Natalia); his brothers, Jim M. Bernhardt and Danny Lee Taraskiewicz; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the R. J. O’Shea Funeral Home in Hampton Bays. Burial was at Calverton National Cemetery
