Three East End Public Libraries Are Awarded State Construction Grants

Aug 11, 2015 2:12 PM

State Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele Jr. recently announced that three East End libraries will receive more than $100,000 in New York State public library construction grants. The State Education Department approved 182 construction awards to public libraries throughout the state.

The East Hampton Library will get $10,000, which will be used for fire sprinklers. The John Jermain Memorial Library in Sag Harbor was awarded $50,000 to be used toward technology, energy efficiency, and handicapped-accessible and safety-code compliance projects. In Southampton, the Rogers Memorial Library received $42,500 for a new roof.

A recent survey of New York’s public libraries showed a documented need for construction and renovation projects which totaled over $2 billion, according to a press release. This state aid for library construction will help local libraries and library systems build new libraries, create additions, update electrical wiring and more.
