Southampton Town’s leaf pick-up program gets under way on Monday, November 28.
One way to work off that postprandial Thanksgiving pudge is to rake leaves, which can be left at the curb afterward. Town residents 73 and under must put the leaves into biodegradable paper bags—plastic bags will not be accepted. Residents 73 and above get a pass—they can put loose leaves out, but need to call 631-702-2585 to register by November 28.
Biodegradable bags can be purchased in Sag Harbor at Emporium True Value Hardware and Henry Persan and Sons, in Southampton at Herrick Hardware and Shinnecock Hardware, in Hampton Bays at Shinnecock Hardware, in East Quogue at Ryder Hardware, and in Westhampton at Westhampton True Value
Residents who use contractors to get rid of their leaves can get vouchers for pick-up by providing a photo ID and telephone number for the property owner, the landscaper’s name and phone number, and an address where the voucher can be mailed. This information can be faxed to 631-728-3605 or mailed to the Highway Department at 20 Jackson Avenue, Hampton Bays, NY 11946.
Sticks, branches, bamboo and grass clippings will not be accepted. Residents have been asked not to place leaf bags or piles near storm drains.
There is a “leaf program hotline”: 631-702-2585.
