Dec 18, 2017 1:32 PM

Robert John Stelling Jr. died on December 9, 2017, in a plane accident. He was 50.

Mr. Stelling was born in Smithtown to Bob and Renee Stelling on May 11, 1967. In the early 1970s, his family moved to Hampton Bays to run the Southampton Peconic Beach and Tennis Club, where Mr. Stelling met the woman who would become his wife, Dawn. They married in 1992 and their life’s adventure began. The couple loved life with their family and friends in Southampton and enjoyed many incredible trips with their children, Shawn, Ryan and Summer, to Florida and the Caribbean, survivors said.

Mr. Stelling always wanted to be on the water and sailing was his passion. He was the manager of the Southampton Peconic Beach and Tennis Club where he shared his love of sailing with his children and other children. He was a caring and loving man who always had time to help others, survivors said, adding that he touched the lives of many families that were part of the beach club throughout the years and was happiest sailing with his family and friends on Peconic Bay.

Along with his parents and his wife and children, Mr. Stelling is survived by his sister, Denise Rosko, and her children, Lexi and Andrew Rosko; his mother-in-law, Bernadette Burns; and all of Dawn’s sisters and their families. He was pre-deceased by his brother-in-law, Alan Rosko.

Memorial donations may be made to the children of Robert Stelling Jr. and may be mailed to Denise Rosko, PO Box 1335, Hampton Bays, NY 11946.
