Noyac Golf Club Head Pro Dave Gosiewski Named 2017 Met PGA Professional Of The Year

May 14, 2018 4:25 PM

Dave Gosiewski, the head professional at Noyac Golf Club, was named 2017 Metropolitan PGA Professional of the Year. It’s a fitting end to what will be a 34-year career for Gosiewski, who is retiring at the end of year.

A Southampton native and graduate of Southampton High School, Gosiewski, 62, started playing golf competitively at 13 in local junior events before competing in LIGA and MGA junior and amateur events. He also caddied at Southampton Golf Club and National Golf Links of America and later worked in the pro shop at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club. After graduating from Southampton High School, where he was a top player all four years on a record-setting team, he went to play at Campbell College.

In April of 1978, Gosiewski started to work under Bill Gilroy, then the head pro at Noyac, and a year later turned professional. He went on to play the PGA Club Pro Series and had a strong playing career being a three-time runner up at the Long Island PGA, and runner up at the Long Island Open, Treiber Memorial and the Met PGA Championship. Gosiewski, who was named the head pro at Noyac in 1985, also qualified for the Senior PGA Professional Championship, the John Farley Cup, and the Gene Borek Squire Cup. He also qualified for several PGA Professional Championships, with a top-15 finish in 1986, which allowed him to advance to the 1987 PGA Championship, where he enjoyed a career highlight playing a practice round alongside Steve Ballesteros, with his dad on the bag.
