Lois Acker Blanchford Dies At 100

Lois Acker Blanchford of Bridgehampton died at her home on Wednesday, July 13. She was 100.

Born in 1910 in the family home of Lois Merwin Acker and Andrew Acker Sr. on Lumber Lane in Bridgehampton, she was one of four children.

She graduated from Bridgehampton High School and later from Alfred University with a Bachelor of Science in mathematics. She married Henry E. Blanchford in her family’s home and the couple shared 62 years together.

The couple raised their family in Rahway, New Jersey, where Mr. Blanchford ran the family business the Mac-Lac Shellac Corporation until his retirement to the East End. They built their home in Water Mill in 1966 and spent their retirement sailing, traveling and gardening. Mr. Blanchford died in 2002.

Ms. Blanchford is survived by four children, Jeffery A. Blanchford of Greenlawn, Jeanne McDowell and Rodney F. Blanchford of Indiana, Sally B. Scranton of Water Mill; and her caregiver Natia; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her siblings, Andrew “Bud” Acker Jr., Florence A. Williams, Madeline A. Williams and Ruth A. Geyer.

She requested that there be no service and donated her remains to Stony Brook University Health Science Department.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind, 371 East Jericho Turnpike, Smithtown, NY 11787.
