Authorities are still searching for a woman who stole an undisclosed amount of money from a Hampton Bays bank last week.

A woman—described by Southampton Town Police as black, roughly 5 feet tall, stocky, and between the ages of 30 and 40—walked into the Chase Bank on Montauk Highway at around 3:30 p.m. on Friday and handed one of the tellers a note demanding cash.

The teller handed over money, and the woman fled the scene on foot, authorities said. She was wearing a blue baseball hat, a blue shirt and sunglasses at the time of the robbery, and was last seen heading west on Montauk Highway, police said.

There were several customers in the bank at the time of the robbery, according to Town Police Detective Sergeant Lisa Costa.

Det. Sgt. Costa declined to say if the woman was carrying a weapon or how much money was stolen.

The robbery was initially reported at 3:33 p.m. Friday, according to Town Police Sergeant John Boden.

All four entrances to the bank were blocked by police cruisers and yellow tape shortly after the robbery was reported Friday.

Authorities are asking that anyone with information about this incident call Town Police detectives at (631) 702-2230, or report anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.

Another gratuitously negative remark from Southampton.

There are thousands and thousands of bank robberies a year. Friday @ Chase was merely Hampton Bay's turn.

So why isn't there a picture of this woman with the article? Did the bank not have cameras or is the STPD giving her a 2 week head start.

because the "leaders" of the SHPD have no idea how to investigate a real crime. Chief "Andy" Pierce and his deputy Lt "Barney" Kiernan are a joke . One counting the days to retire, the other suing the town for millions so he can retire early.

I am told that to save money the bank used fake cameras-they were not really taking pictures.

How about a picture so the community could assist in an identification?

only real police departments with competent leaders do things like that. The guy who ran down the nun is still laughing at them, as is this woman. They don't NEED any help!
