George W. Moore of Hampton Bays, the owner of George Moore Realty for many years before his retirement, died at his home on November 20, 2016, after a long illness. He was 86.
He was graduate of Hampton Bays High School, where he was a star pitcher for the baseball team, holding the record for the most strikeouts in a seven-inning game in 1948, a record that still stands. Following graduation, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served during the Korean War, from 1951 to 1954. After his military service, he played baseball for the New York Giants from 1955 to 1956.
Mr. Moore is survived by two children, Barry J. Moore and wife Lisbeth of Baldwin, and Cathy J. Ward and husband Eugene of Valley Stream; four grandchildren, Parker Moore, Olivia Moore, Megan Ward and Owen Ward; and a brother, Joseph P. Moore and wife Patricia of Florida.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the J. Ronald Scott Funeral Home in Hampton Bays. A memorial service officiated by the Reverend Robert Griffin took place on November 25; burial was at Good Ground Cemetery.
