Marge Gately of Hampton Bays celebrated her 100th birthday on March 7 and she was honored after the Hampton Bays St. Patrick’s Day parade at the Church of St. Rosalie’s community center by the parade hosts, the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Michael Collins Division 11, with a cake and a rousing rendition of “Happy Birthday.”

Born on March 7, 1917, she married Thomas Gately, who predeceased her, in 1938 and they raised two children, Thomas and the late Margaret, in Parkchester. She has two granddaughters, Catherine and Margaret.

Mrs. Gately is a longtime member and former officer of the Irish-American Society of the Hamptons. She was honored by the society at a dinner on March 12 at Buckley’s Inn Between in Hampton Bays.

Until recently, she volunteered at the parish office of the Church of St. Rosalie. She has always been ready to play the piano, make Irish soda bread or knit her famous Irish sweaters.
