Police: Mastic Man Tried To Sell Drugs To Undercover Police Officer In Hampton Bays Tuesday

Dec 5, 2017 4:58 PM

A 29-year-old Mastic man was arrested in Hampton Bays last week after he was accused of attempting to sell heroin to an undercover police officer.

Southampton Town Police said Wayne Brown contacted an undercover officer on November 28 in the afternoon and offered to sell him a quantity of the drug, though police did not say how much. A short time later, police said, Mr. Brown agreed to meet at a parking lot along Main Street in Hampton Bays.

Members of the East End Drug Task Force, along with uniformed Town Police officers, arrived at the parking lot at the agreed time and arrested Mr. Brown.

Police said Mr. Brown was in possession of a quantity of suboxone and heroin at the time of his arrest, though they did not specify how much of each drug he had.

Mr. Brown was charged with third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance and third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, both felonies, as well as seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor.

Mr. Brown was also arrested on a New York State parole warrant and three Suffolk County Court warrants, police said, adding that he was on parole for second-degree attempted robbery.

He was taken to Southampton Town Police headquarters in Hampton Bays, where he was processed and held for arraignment in Town Justice Court on November 29. At arraignment, Mr. Brown was remanded to Suffolk County Jail in Riverside and was due back in court on Monday.

Jeffrey Hodge, 56, of Southampton also was arrested in the incident, police said, and was charged with fourth-degree criminal facilitation, a misdemeanor, for driving Mr. Brown to meet with the undercover officer. He was processed at Town Police headquarters, held for arraignment in Town Justice Court and released on his own recognizance.

Nothing says "Welcome to Hampton Bays" like open drug dealing. Could this be part of Jay's plan for economic revitalization and tourism? Neither person seemed to be from Hampton Bays..maybe they stopped for a slice...had a beer....saw a movie while they were here before they were arrested.

Interesting that HB gets blamed in the headline when a Mastic man and his friend from Southampton were arrested. Classic.

I am so thankful for the East End Drug Task Force - they seem to be the lead agency on cleaning up Hampton Bays. You have to ask why these two reported not being from Hampton Bays chose Hampton Bays. Was it because it was equidistant between where they were coming from or was it because they would just blend in with all of the other illegal activities going on in all of the parking lots in Hampton Bays.

Is this the same Jeffrey Hodge who was arrested on November 1 for possession? Or 10 years ago: Jeffrey K. Hodge, 46, of Southampton was pulled over by Village Police on County Road 39 on March 20 at 1:45 p.m. for vehicle and traffic violations when police said he became belligerent and shouted obscenities at an officer who asked for his driver's license. Mr. Hodge was arrested and charged with three misdemeanors: criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, obstructing ...more

And, yet, our Town Stupervisor is sitting on an “Opiod Awareness “ committee... sounds like if they got Mr. Hodge off of the streets it would solve a bit of the problem.

Why is an obvious drug addict who was arrested just weeks ago for heroin possession driving people to complete drug deals in Hampton Bays?

Mr. Hodge must have a great attorney and be quite a persuasive person. Arrested twice for heroin possession in the Town if Southampton and still be able to convince his friend to sell to an undercover narcotics officer. Is he out on bail again?

Released on his own recognizance. Is this what is meant by "catch and release"?
Happy Holidays, Mr. Hodge!
