Jul 30, 2019 12:34 PM

A Flanders man was arrested by Southampton Town Police on Wednesday, July 24, after police said he threatened to set fire to the TD Bank in Hampton Bays.

At approximately 11:04 a.m., John Hudson, 55, called the bank’s central call center, which relayed the threat to the employees of the West Montauk Highway branch, according to a police press release.

Employees immediately began to lock the doors—until they noticed that Mr. Hudson was already inside the bank.

An employee immediately notified police, who, after a brief investigation, charged Mr. Hudson with making a terroristic threat, a felony. Upon further investigation, police recovered two rifles and ammunition from Mr. Hudson’s vehicle.

In an email on Thursday, July 25, Southampton Town Police Detective Lieutenant James Kiernan said that Mr. Hudson was involved in a dispute with bank employees regarding how his accounts were being handled.

He was transported to Southampton Town Police headquarters in Hampton Bays and was held overnight for morning arraignment and posted $400 bail. He is due back in Southampton Town Justice Court on September 17.

Police asked anyone with information regarding the ongoing investigation to contact the department’s detective division at 631-702-2230.
