Craig Tuthill, a former chief of the Montauk Fire Department, died on Friday, August 19. He was 80 years old.
Mr. Tuthill had been with the Montauk Fire Department for 63 years and was the Grand Marshal of the St. Patrick’s Day parade in 2010. He is survived by five children; Lorraine, Caroline, Jaqueline, Steven, and Edward.
According to Yardley & Pino Funeral Home in East Hampton, arrangements have not been finalized.
Mr. Tuthill, a beloved member of the Montauk community, was a longtime member of the Montauk Historical Society and a volunteer firefighter. He worked with Company 2, 4, 5, and 6 during his time in the fire department.
“He was a true local Montauker born and raised,” said former police chief Ed Ecker, who now works as the information officer at the Montauk Fire Department. “Everybody loved him, he was very helpful and easygoing.”
