Sag Harbor 12U All-Stars Start District 36 Tournament 2-0

The Sag Harbor 12-and-under All-Stars started its run in the District 36 Tournament with a pair of victories.Trailing Hampton Bays, 6-0, after three innings on their home field behind the Bridgehampton Fire Department on Saturday, Sag Harbor stormed all the way back scoring three in the third and five in the fourth to take an 8-7 lead. After Hampton Bays tied the game at 8 in the fifth, Paul Roesel doubled in Adam Drohan to give Sag Harbor the 9-8 lead and eventual victory. Andy Wayne, Jeffrey Gregor and Paul Roesel had multiple hits in the game with Roesel leading the way with three. Cooper Kelsey calmed things down on the mound, allowing just two runs and striking out six in four innings of relief work.

Sag Harbor followed that up with a 9-1 victory over East End Little League on Monday evening, which was also played in Bridgehampton. It scored five runs in the fourth inning to pull away with the win. Paul Roesel was dominant on the mound, pitching a complete game. He struck out seven and gave up one run. Gregor, Baum, Matthew Greenwald, Spencer Cavaniola and Roesel, who finished 4 for 4 , each had a multi-hit games.

East Hampton and Sag Harbor both sit atop the Pool ‘A’ standings as of Tuesday morning while North Shore American and East End are both 1-1 and Hampton Bays and Southampton are 0-2. After each team plays each other once, which will wrap up this Sunday, the top two teams from each pool move on to the semifinals of the tournament. Pool ‘B’ this year is made up of North Shore National, Eastport-South Manor, Moriches Bay, North Patchogue/Medford, Riverhead and Mastic. The tournament ultimately leads to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

Joey Baum, Ethan Bramoff, Ethan Bechard, Spencer Cavaniola, Adam Drohan, Matthew Greenwald, Jeffrey Gregor, Cooper Kelsey, David Kriegsman, Oscar Mettler, Finlay Panton, Paul Roesel and Andy Wayne all make up this year's 12U squad, coached by Ben Gregor, Steve Bechard and Paul Wayne.

Sag Harbor was expected to play Southampton on Wednesday and at East Hampton at Pantigo Park at 5:45 p.m. on Friday. They finish up pool play on Sunday at noon at North Shore American.

10U Baseball All-Stars

The 10-and-under Sag Harbor All-Stars started its tournament with a tough 13-1 loss to North Shore American on Sunday afternoon. Four teams make up Pool ‘A’ in the 10U group this season. North Shore American and East Hampton won their first games while Sag Harbor and Southampton are 0-1. Longwood, North Shore National, North Patchogue/Medford and Riverhead play in Pool ‘B,’ and just like their older counterparts, the top two teams from each pool move on to the semifinals of the tournament.

This year’s team includes Nicholas Chavez, Nicholas D’Angelo, Andrew Dehler, Lincoln Fischer, Kai Genender, Ashton Greene, Kai Greene, Brian Schroeder, Benjamin Kriegsman, Dominic Mazzeo, Martin Milazzo and Evan Mitchell, and are coached by Brent Greene, Kevin Dehler and Ben Fischer.

Sag Harbor was expected to host East Hampton on Tuesday and then play at Southampton on Thursday, June 27, at 5:45 p.m.
