Sagaponack School decides to give students the option of going to Bridgehampton or Sag Habor

Mar 10, 2010 12:21 PM

Students from the Sagaponack School will now have the option of attending either Bridgehampton or Sag Harbor schools in addition to East Hampton schools for fifth through 12th grade.

In a unanimous decision on Thursday, March 4, the Sagaponack School Board agreed to give parents and students a choice of schools, Board President Chuck Barbour said. If students wish to attend Bridgehampton or Sag Harbor, their parents must make a request to the Sagaponack School Board, which will then determine whether or not either of the other school districts have room. “We’ll be doing it on a case-by-case basis,” he emphasized.

The East Hampton School District will remain the “primary choice” for Sagaponack students, and transportation will not be provided to Bridgehampton or Sag Harbor. Parents must either drive the students or find another way of getting them there, Mr. Barbour said.

Mr. Barbour added that he does not believe there are any students currently in the fourth grade at the Sagaponack School who will be attending either Bridgehampton or Sag Harbor next year, although that could change.
