The Southampton 4x200-meter relay team of sophomore Meggie Gallo, seniors Emily Wesnofske and Jessa Laspesa, and junior Erika Gulija ran at the Long Island Elite Meet at St. Anthony’s High School in South Huntington on Friday and finished with a school record time of 1:50.86.
The quartet placed sixth overall at the meet, which automatically earns them All-Long Island status.
“It’s a pretty prestigious meet, and it’s a nice way to finish the season,” Southampton girls indoor track head coach Eddie Arnold said on Monday.
Southampton senior Isabella Franz also ran on Friday in the 1,000-meter race and ran a personal-best 3:04.90, three seconds faster than her previous best. Franz won the county title and qualified for the state meet in the 600-meter race, which is this Saturday, March 2, at Cornell University.
Arnold said Franz ran in the 1,000 at the Long Island Elite Meet as “more like a workout-slash-goal to accomplish with a personal best, which she did improve by almost three seconds.”
