Two weeks since a drive-by shooting on Hillcrest Avenue in Southampton Village left three people injured, no arrests have been made, and Southampton Village Police are now asking for the public’s help in identifying and locating suspects.

On Tuesday, the police department—which has provided few details about suspects in the January 25 incident—released a new bit of information: police are looking for the driver of a 2011 white Toyota Camry. They say the man exited the car just before 6 p.m. on January 25 and fired multiple shots from a shotgun into a group of people standing on the side of the road.

The driver—identified by police only as a male—then got back into the car, which was occupied by several men, and fled the scene, according to authorities. Police said they are also looking for the other occupants of the car.

The gunshots injured three men, who were taken in private vehicles to Southampton Hospital, where they were all treated for non-life-threatening injuries, authorities said last month.

Suffolk County Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information that may lead to an arrest. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All call will be kept confidential, police said.

On Tuesday, Southampton Village Police Detective Sergeant Herman Lamison said that the department decided to release the information about the vehicle because “we’re just seeking additional information.” He said the men in the Toyota Camry were “a vast range of ages” and would not otherwise provide descriptions.

“The investigation is moving positively. Just seeking additional information,” Det. Sgt. Lamison said. “Some people may know more than we do.”

While briefing the Village Board on the shooting just a few days after the incident took place, Village Police Chief Thomas Cummings had said the shooting was the result of an “ongoing dispute” among the people involved.

“We have a pretty good idea of what happened. This wasn’t just a random event,” the chief had told the board.

Sounds like the police are looking first for a "2011 white Toyota Camry" that happens to have a male driver in it because that is the only concrete information they are giving here. At least we have been spared the crappy pictures at this point.

Its interesting that there is no more details about the driver considering that apparently, it was reported, that a police officer crossed the car as it drove away. I would think the officer saw the driver and would be able to give a better description. ...more

What an absolutely pitiful bit of "police" work!! The description of the vehicle and an ACCURATE description of the driver should have been broadcast immediately !! Whiskey tango foxtrot is going on here?!

Agree 100%. It was a male. Between what ages? Race? Complexion? Hair color/cut? Scars? Tatoos? Height? Weight? If they want the public's help more info would be good.
I think they're in over their heads. Maybe less time doing private security and more time doing police work would help?

Let's be very clear here. There was a BOLO put out the day of the shooting. How else would SHVP Chief Cummings know that an officer drove past him. That's the Chief's words paraphrased. (reference 27East.com on the original story.) They had a discription of the people's involved. Now the trouble will be if the community of Hillcrest are minding their own business and keeping to themselves. It's their right but I'm pretty sure someone got a good look. The reason for the Be On The Lookout sent to ...more
