Thomas Walter Eeves Joyce Jr. of Southampton and formerly of Flushing, New York, died July 6, 2018, in Silver Spring, Maryland, surrounded by his loving family, while in hospice care. He was 81.

Mr. Joyce was born August 23, 1936, in New York City at St. Vincent’s Hospital, to parents Thomas Walter Eeves Joyce and Margarete Maria Luise Urban. He graduated from St. Anselm’s College in June 1958. On November 29, 1958, he married Meredith Joan Platt, whom he originally met “practically in the crib,” as his father (a graduate of the Fordham University School of Law) and her father, William Bangs Platt (a graduate of Georgetown Law), became close friends while at Georgetown University. Mr. Joyce graduated from New York Law School and was admitted to the Bar in 1963. He retired in 1988, as vice president and senior associate counsel of the Chase Manhattan Bank after more than 23 years of service as a litigation attorney.

He and his wife, Meredith, owned and managed the Another Time Antiques shop in the Village of Southampton for more than 25 years, where Mr. Joyce particularly specialized in the sale and repair of model trains and shared his love of trains with those who entered the shop.

Mr. Joyce was a devout Catholic and longtime parishioner of the Basilica Church of Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, where he was married and his mother-in-law, Edith Guldi Platt, played the organ for more than 40 years. Mr. Joyce volunteered in many service roles at the church over the years.

In 2014, he and his wife moved to the Riderwood Retirement Community in Silver Spring, Maryland.

Mr. Joyce was predeceased by his brother, James Joyce, on December 24, 2017. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Meredith Joyce; his sister, Elizabeth Joyce of Southampton; his daughter, Catherine Joyce Gates and husband Bret of Maryland; his son, Thomas W.E. Joyce III and wife Lori of Pennsylvania; and four grandchildren, Kevin Gates of Florida, Ryan Joyce and fiancée Melissa Butler of Virginia, Brendan Gates and wife Christie of North Carolina, and Kayla Joyce of Connecticut.

Visitation will be held Thursday, July 12, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at O’Connell-Rothwell Funeral Home in Southampton.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated Friday, July 13, starting at 10:30 a.m. at Basilica of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary.

Memorial donations may be made to the Basilica of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary in Southampton, and Holy Cross Hospice, Silver Spring, Maryland.
