Kabot arrest leaves nagging doubts

Sep 16, 2009 1:49 PM

Ed Broidy, another Kabot supporter who attended the fund-raiser, said the arrest should not affect the way voters or fellow public officials respond to Ms. Kabot as supervisor. He compared Ms. Kabot’s reelection to other politicians who have run into trouble with the law but won anyway.

“She’s doing a good job, that’s what counts. If she wasn’t doing a good job, then [the DWI] would affect her,” he said after the fund-raiser. “It’s life.”

Hank Beck, secretary for the Southampton Town Democratic Committee, said there’s no way of knowing if the DWI charge will hurt Ms. Kabot’s reelection campaign. “It’s a great deal of stress on her,” he said. “I hope she can salvage it on her own.”

In an e-mail this week, Ms. Kabot said she has received more than 100 e-mails of support from Southampton Town residents. “My reelection campaign moves forward to demonstrate to voters that I remain the most capable, knowledgeable and dedicated candidate to lead local government at the town level at this time,” she said in an e-mail. “I respectfully ask the voters for their continued support and confidence.”

During her speech at Thursday’s fund-raiser, Ms. Kabot thanked her supporters for “raising me up on your shoulders just when I needed it the most,” and thanked her husband, Lance, and Bob Olson, the Southampton Integrity Party chairman. Ms. Kabot alluded to the political turmoil she’s been through this year, calling it the “drama at town hall.”

“I sure do make elections interesting, don’t I?” she said.

I am a registered republican and plan to send a message to those who think they are above the law by voting for the democratic candidate. If voters are tired of politicians using their elected positions for personal gain and doing so in the most arrogant and disrepectful manner, then I urge my fellow voters to cross politival lines in unity aginst this type of power abuse. Vote against Linda Kabot!

Again who thinks they are above the law? When did Kabot use her position for personal gain. Facts please.
As a republican (or so you say) who do you want to see running our town, the tax and spend democrats? Remember they are liberals who are in favor of immigration, and those tb members who support everything that Tim Bishops stands for and voted yes on.
The message that I will be sending will be to democrats by voting republican.

Golfbuddy...is that the best that you have got? Nothing but the Fox TV talking points describing Democrats? Get real and know that the town is going down the tubes all on your candidates watch. No matter who you all try to blame, it is the fault of the GOP leadership and GOP elected officials here in Southampton.

Haven't we had enough of Linda Kabot?

By the way, what has Kabot or Nuzzi ever done about immigration? NOTHING!!

The immigration issue is a question you should be asking your democrat friend Tim Bishop. What has he done as a u.s. congressman. Let me help you, he has done nothing.
BTW I am stating facts on who should take the blame for the town's financial problems. What have the democrats done besides ask for an audit. Have they made any cuts to the budget? All they are doing is sitting back, afraid to make any cuts because it would be unpopular with the voters. This is not what they were ...more

Apart from sympathy for someone having personal difficulties, it's a shame this incident has come along to confuse the issue of who should be Southampton's next Supervisor. In fact, there are ample reasons, having nothing to do with this DWI charge, not to vote for Linda Kabot. She has made disastrous mistakes of both policy and administration, which have left the Town in a financial hole of historic proportions.

It may be that Southampton has never been in worse condition, and this ...more

All this yammering about immmigration when the Town is going down the tubes financially is like a drowning man complaining that he he doesn't like the landscaping on the shorefront.
