Vice President Joe Biden vacations in Southampton

Publication: The Southampton Press
By Colleen Reynolds   Aug 5, 2010 11:11 AM

Vice President Joseph Biden Jr. and his wife, Dr. Jill Biden, visited the Southampton area for a brief vacation on Friday and were scheduled to leave Long Island on Wednesday, according to the vice president’s office at the White House.

Mr. Biden reportedly landed at Frances S. Gabreski Airport in Westhampton on Friday afternoon, and his motorcade was spotted entering Southampton Village shortly after 2:30 p.m. that day.

According to the White House, the Bidens were staying as guests at a private residence in the area and had no public events scheduled during their visit.

The Federal Aviation Administration issued a no-fly zone over much of the Westhampton, Southampton and East Hampton air space, in effect Friday afternoon, Alex Hanyo of Malloy Air East, a fixed-base operator in Westhampton, confirmed.

Mr. Biden’s last visit to Southampton Village, also of a personal nature, took place over Memorial Day weekend,
when he reportedly stayed at an estate on First Neck Lane in the village.

Sally Richardson, a reservation manager at The Village Latch Hotel on Hill Street, noted on Friday that a “large group of White House people and Secret Service are in the area” and that “there’s not a room to be had in town.”

On Wednesday, before leaving, Mr. Biden, a 6- to 8-handicap golfer, took a lesson with Greg Garvin, the pro at Southampton Golf Club.

Air Force II is the call sign for any Air Force fixed wing aircraft the VP is aboard. Whether its a 707 or a small business jet. There isn't one plane that is AF 2. Just like there are 2 plane assigned to the president. AF 1 is whichever he is aboard. BTW- they both go whenever he flies.

No one in angry. But get real, using Airforce II , needing several Secret Service Agents, this is tax payer money. He's out here on a vacation weekend on your and my dime. He's not on business this is a social visit to friends on First Neck Lane.
Right, he is doing appropriate things for his distinguished role.
He’s and elitist and thinks the average working person is beneath him.

Truth be told, I'd like to see more fiscal responsibility in Washington. Heck, I think ALL of us would like to see that.

Poking fun at the miniscule things, is one of the few ways to laugh at the gross, and reckless irresponsiblity that exists when it comes to the American people's tax dollars.

Frankly, I'd rather laugh at it, than cry over it...

No.

If we "give it a rest", there's nothing, no attempt to stop excessive behavior.

"Congress has allowed government employees to spend tax dollars on iPods, jewelry, gambling, exotic dance clubs, and $13,500 steak dinners. If lawmakers cannot even reduce this kind of waste, fraud, and abuse, taxpayers will be less likely to trust them to reform Social Security and Medicare."

There is excessive spending in Washington.
We could start by cutting the defense budget-there's no need to spend more than the next 20 countries combined on defense while the people of this country are struggling, losing their homes and unemployed.
Start by cutting defense and reirecting that money toward infrastructure, education and healthcare, all of which have problems of their own. These are issues that will benefit everyone for the long term;when you make a bullet,it is used once and ...more

McCain was born in a US occupied military zone by two American citizens. He could have been born on the moon and it wouldn't have mattered.

No actual BO birth document has been provided... only reproductions. It gives the impression of hiding something if nothing else.

An Aug. 4 CNN poll captures the skepticsm. perhaps across party lines. 27 percent of respondents doubt that Obama, whose father was Kenyan, or his birth certificate are telling the truth. 42 percent said ...more

Panama is Panama. The U.S. is the U.S. It doesnt say anywhere in the Constitution that "people born in U.S. occupied zones are citizens".

Asfar as polls about how many people believe what, I'd imagine that a large number of people believe that aliens actually crashed in Rozwell, that Global Warming is a myth and that the Theory of Evolution is basically the rantings of a madman. People can believe any wild thoughts that they want to and that doesnt mean that I'm swayed by it, lol.

U.S. Code =/= Constitution

Legislation, Regualtions and Codes come and go. The Constitution stays. Is Title 8 of the U.S. Code in contradiction to the Constitution in regards to eligibility to the presidency? I don't know.

What I can tell you that it's a far more interesting conversation than "show me your birth certificate or you're an illegal!" The Supreme Court had the option to hear the case about Obama's birth and threw it out. In other words, it had no legal grounds and ...more

I feel dirty and somehow dumber for discussing the rights and wrongs of the Birther points of view ~shudders~

For all of you keeping track of the merryment of Cochise.... there will be very important elections coming up. Choose wisely. Elections have consequences.

Your up Chief.

please - more visits by government officials! it's the only way residents west of the airport can get a little break from the roar of low flying planes/jets/helicopters.
