Man Dies In Apparent Drowning In Springs On Sunday Night

Sep 4, 2018 2:19 PM

Brett Friedberg, a 22-year-old Port Washington resident, was pronounced dead late Sunday evening at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital after he apparently drowned in a pool in Springs, according to Captain Chris Anderson of the East Hampton Town Police Department.

According to Captain Anderson, Mr. Friedberg was staying with acquaintances at a house on Waterhole Road in the Clearwater Beach section of Springs when his body was pulled out of the pool on Sunday at around 11 p.m.

A 911 call was received at 11:09 p.m., after people noticed that Mr. Friedberg was unresponsive in the water, Capt. Anderson said on Tuesday morning. A large number of people were at the house when police arrived at the scene, Captain Anderson said.

Mr. Friedberg was transported to Stony Brook Southampton Hospital by the Springs Fire Department ambulance and pronounced dead at the hospital.

According to Capt. Anderson, there was nothing to indicate foul play, and the exact cause of death is still being investigated.
