Several fire departments responded to a barn fire on Montauk Highway in Water Mill, just east of the Parrish Art Museum, on Saturday morning.

The Southampton, Bridgehampton, North Sea, Hampton Bays, Sag Harbor and East Hampton departments all responded to the fire, which broke out at around 9 a.m. According to Southampton Fire Department 1st Assistant Chief Chris Brenner, the fire was in the barn of a former antiques dealership, just behind Furniture Gardens.

Mr. Brenner said several ambulance companies also were at the scene, including the Southampton Volunteer Ambulance and Southampton Village Volunteer Ambulance. There were no injuries reported.

Mr. Brenner added that PSEG Long Island was called to cut power to the barn.

As of Tuesday, the Southampton Town fire marshal’s office had not determined a cause.

Kevin Brennan, who witnessed the blaze, said he thought a robbery had occurred at first because of the number of police cars that responded. Then he noticed the flames, which he said started on the east side of the building, then worked their way up to the roof.

“It was just smoking,” Mr. Brennan said. “It’s sad. There’s a very historic part [of the building], to the left of it. It’s an old barn.”
