Bonnie Jean Bishop Sereduke died at Stony Brook University Medical Center on June 27. She was 66.
Born at King’s Hospital in Bay Shore to Hermon L. and Catherine Raynor Bishop, she grew up in Westhampton Beach and moved to Stony Brook when she married.
Survivors said Ms. Sereduke was dedicated to creating a community of caring all around her with her activities for the neighborhood children, her stewardship of nature and her generosity of spirit with family and friends. Her uniquely accepting view of life allowed for an eclectic and wide circle of friends for whom the love and caring she felt always shone through, survivors said.
They said she found joy in life’s celebrations, taking delight in involving the neighborhood children in over-the-top decorating for the holidays. She was a wonderful, whimsical artist who lived a very creative lifestyle, according to survivors, who said her smile and laughter were contagious, and that she was known for “her ability to lift those around her out of the mundane and into the realm of humor.”
Ms. Sereduke was predeceased by her husband, Peter D. Sereduke. She is survived by a son, Brian P. Sereduke of Colorado; a twin brother, Hermon J. Bishop of Westhampton Beach; two sisters, Lynn Bishop of Arizona and JoAnn Bishop Freed of Hawaii; and nephews, Phillip and Christopher Freed, also of Hawaii.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 11, from 3 to 6 p.m. at her home at 58 Brook Drive in Stony Brook.
Memorial donations may be made to the Quogue Wildlife Refuge, P.O. Box 492, Quogue, NY 11959.
