UPDATE: MONDAY, 2 p.m.

The 23-year-old man who died after he was pulled from the water at Rogers Beach on Saturday was identified as Jordan Boris by his sister, Lisa Boris.

Mr. Boris, of Brooklyn, grew up in Roslyn and was staying at his family's second home in Westhampton over the weekend before he died.

Westhampton Beach Police Chief Trevor Gonce did not respond to calls seeking comment on Monday.

UPDATE: SUNDAY, 2 p.m.

Westhampton Beach Village Police identified the man who drowned at Rogers Beach as a 23-year-old from Brooklyn, though police are withholding the man’s name until family is notified..

When the man was pulled from the ocean by four lifeguards, he went into cardiac arrest, according to police.

Shaun Johnson, manager at Rogers Beach, said an automatic external defibrillator was used on the victim less than four minutes after he was pulled from the water. When Village Police arrived, the beach's AED was swapped out for the police's AED. Mr. Johnson noted that neither AED instructed the administrator to shock the victim—which the device is designed to do in cases when a shock is required.

The victim was transported by Westhampton Beach Ambulance to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead, where he was pronounced dead.

UPDATE: SUNDAY, 10:30 a.m.

Shaun Johnson, manager at Rogers Beach, said a young man was pulled from the ocean by lifeguards at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Lifeguards pulled the victim out of the water and administered CPR until Westhampton Beach Village Police arrived at the scene shortly after and took over until the ambulance arrived. The man was later declared dead.

Village Police still would not release any information Sunday morning.

Mr. Johnson, who was on the deck working the radio at the time of the incident, noted that there were rough waters and rip tide warnings at the beach yesterday, although he couldn't say if water conditions were a factor in the drowning.

Dear Neighbor

Congratulations on your new windows. They certainly are big. They certainly are see-through. You must be thrilled with the way they removed even more of that wall and replaced it with glass. It must make it easier to see what is going on in your house even when the internet is down. And security is everything. Which explains the windows. Nothing will make you feel more secure than imagining yourself looking over the rear-yard setback from these massive sheets of structural glass. Staring at the wall has well-known deleterious impact, and windows the size of movie screens are the bold ... 11 Dec 2025 by Marilee Foster
