My apologies to the Greater Westhampton Chamber of Commerce for mixing up the submission deadline for its Summer Art Poster Contest entries with the date it will actually start

accepting

the submissions. The correct deadline for submitting those entries is noon on Wednesday, April 18.

Artists are invited to submit a maximum of two creations that depict life in and around the greater Westhampton area. There are no size restrictions and it is free to enter. All entries, along with a signed artwork submission form, can be dropped off at the Fitzgerald Gallery, located at 48-B Main Street, between now and April 18.

The winner, whose selected artwork will be used to promote the chamber’s 40th annual Mary O. Fritchie Juried Outdoor Fine Arts Show this August, will be announced during the chamber’s monthly dinner meeting on Thursday, April 19. The dinner starts at 6:30 p.m. and will be held at the Stone Creek Inn on Montauk Highway in East Quogue.

And as you all probably know by now, Saturday’s poor weather postponed the chamber’s annual Egg Hunt. It will now be held

this

Saturday, April 7, on the Great Lawn in Westhampton Beach. The hunt will begin as soon as the noon fire whistle blows. A scavenger hunt will commence following the mad scramble for hidden eggs—which should be roughly 12:03 p.m., if past hunts are to serve as a guideline—but let’s give them until 12:30 p.m. or so to catch their collective breath.

If your kids are itching for an “EGG-cellent” activity to do prior to the chamber’s egg hunt, they should swing by the Quogue Wildlife Refuge on Thursday, April 5, from 3:30 until 4 p.m. After examining the refuge’s egg and nest collection, children will have the chance to create and decorate their own nests—and the eggs to go with them. This event is open to kids age 5 to 12 and there is a charge of $5 per child. Space is limited, so make your reservations now. You may also want to bring a smock or old shirt, as things tend to get a little messy. Call 653-4771 for more details and to save your spot.

Finally, the next Village of Westhampton Beach’s Board of Trustees meeting is scheduled for tonight, Thursday, April 5. It begins at 7 p.m. upstairs in Village Hall. No reservations are required.
