Westhampton Beach School Board Holds First Of Several Budget Hearings

Mr. Radday noted, however, that he does not foresee the district making any significant changes to its busing policy this year, noting that it will be a topic of discussion.

On Monday night, Mr. Hulme said the district, which is trying to stay below the tax cap, needs to find areas in the budget that can be reduced without sacrificing the quality of education. He stressed that whatever money could be saved by reducing busing costs could be reallocated to academic programs.

“We have a core standard that we teach here,” Mr. Hulme said. “That is what we do. We are going to have to have a discussion about what belongs in the inner circle and what is in the outer circle of what we have. At some point we are going to have a discussion on what things in the outer circles can’t go on anymore.”

Can we do any decreases? Increasing in buses and building? When was the last time the bus contract was bid out? Audited? or do they have a lock for life?

... trade in the laptops and use Ipads instead. They are half the price of a laptop and do the same thing. Wouldn't the district save close to a million dollars doing this?

How much is spent on the laptops? Does every student need one?
