Sherman L. Patterson Jr. of Chandler, Arizona, died on Wednesday, March 5. He was 89.
Born to Rosa Belle and Sherman L. Patterson Sr. on November 24, 1924, in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, and raised in Westhampton Beach, Mr. Patterson served in the military during World War II, followed by a two-decade career as a probation officer. He spent his well-earned retirement golfing and becoming a fixture, friend and mentor at Chandler’s San Marcos Golf Course, survivors said. He was a lifelong athlete, with varsity letters in both high school (captaining the football, basketball, baseball and track teams in his senior year) and college. Golf was his true love, from his first job as a caddy to his role as elder statesman in the clubhouse.
Mr. Patterson was predeceased by a sister, Hazel; brother, Traxler; and wives, Marian and Charlotte. He is survived by a brother, the Reverend J. Russell Patterson; and three sons, Aaron, Alan and Seth.
