Westhampton Beach firefighters battled a small blaze at the Six Corners Wines and Liquor store on Mill Road on Tuesday morning.The Westhampton Beach Fire Department responded to the scene at 9:59 a.m. and, according to a press release, firefighters located an extensive fire in the interior ceiling, near the front entrance. Police said a small brush fire was initially reported on the side of the shop but quickly engulfed the building. The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Southampton Town fire marshal. Flames could be seen consuming an awning in front of the store at 10:15 a.m.“The fire started at the side of the building where we store our cardboard,” store clerk Emmett Boone said.According to firefighters, the fire was quickly put out, but Mill Road remained closed for about an hour and a half, during which officials vented the roof and searched for any hot spots. Firefighters from the Westhampton Beach Fire Department, whose headquarters building is around the corner from the liquor store, and the Eastport Fire Department were on the scene, as were members of the Village Police Department and the Westhampton War Memorial Ambulance. The Quogue Fire Department also stood on standby on Brook Road. According to the Westhampton Beach Fire Department, no injuries were reported in the blaze.
