Dec 17, 2014 12:21 PM

The Village of Westhampton Beach has announced the winners of its annual holiday lighting contest.

The Rubio family, and their home at 244 Mill Road, took top honors in the Residence Category for having the biggest “wow” factor, while, among the commercial entries, the Follett and Werner Funeral Home on Mill Road and the Margarita Grille on Main Street claimed the highest accolades in the small and large business categories, respectively. Each will receive $100 to go along with a 5-inch-by-7-inch photograph of their illuminated holiday displays.

The following homes were recognized in the Residence category: best use of white lights, the Heffernans at 110 Oneck Lane; best use of color lights, the Rubios at 244 Mill Road; most traditional display, the Barclays at 42 Woodland Avenue; and most festive, the Overtons at 85 Oak Street. An honorable mention went to the Belson family at 249 Sunset Avenue.

The following awards were handed out in the Small Business category: best use of white lights, Follett and Werner Funeral Home; best use of color lights, the Morgan House on Potunk Lane; best window display, Kerrigan Country Realty on Main Street; and an honorable mention went to Brunetti Hair Salon, also on Main Street.

And the following accolades were awarded in the Large Business category: best use of white lights, The Beach Bakery on Main Street; best use of color lights, Margarita Grille; best window display, Cor-J Seafood on Mill Road; and an honorable mention went to Tonino’s Pizza on Old Riverhead Road.

The judging was done this year by Susan Wilcenski, Tim Kenniston and Catherine Murphy. The winners will be recognized by the Village Board during its first meeting of the new year, scheduled for Thursday, January 8.

FWIW I kinda like the switch to the white lights in the village this year. However...the big tree looks pretty bad and someone must have stolen Jesus from the Nativity.
