Bonner Tapped As Grand Marshal Of 48th Annual Westhampton Beach St. Patrick's Day Parade

Jan 13, 2015 10:33 AM

The Westhampton Beach St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee has selected local business owner and philanthropist Anthony Bonner to serve as grand marshal of this year’s parade in March.

The Westhampton Beach native, Westhampton Beach High School graduate and owner of Sea Level Construction in Westhampton was an easy choice for grand marshal, according to Parade Committee President Tim Laube, because of the time and resources he’s given to various organizations both in and around the village.

“Annually, we try to pick somebody who does a lot of community service in the greater Westhampton area,” Mr. Laube said. “When one of my members presented Anthony, he was a no-brainer.”

This year’s parade kicks off at noon on Saturday, March 14, and the theme, which was selected by Mr. Bonner, is “Love.” This is the 48th annual parade and Mr. Bonner will serve as the 49th grand marshal; there were two grand marshals one year.

Mr. Bonner supports various activities in the community, including the Police Athletic League, the Raynor Country Day School in Speonk, the Kiwanis Club of Greater Westhampton, the Westhampton Beach Historical Society, the Westhampton Beach High School Robotics Club, the Rotary Club of Westhampton and many others, Mr. Laube said.

Mr. Bonner has also done a lot for the Westhampton Beach High School, including securing a fence for the baseball team and a piano, according to Mr. Laube.

Mr. Bonner, who is 51 and a village native, grew up watching the Westhampton Beach St. Patrick’s Day Parade. He said he’s looking forward to being on the other side of things this time around.

“It’s an honor and greatly appreciated,” he said. “I’m excited to just see all the people and kick off the summer.”
