The quest for the perfect lawn will be addressed on Monday, June 14, at 7 p.m., when the League of Women Voters of the Hamptons, in conjunction with the Hampton Library in Bridgehampton, will present “Lawns: A Dangerous Obsession?” at the library.
The environmental program will include a film screening and panel discussion. The 30-minute film “American Lawn,” which was produced by East Hampton resident Cile Downs on behalf of the Accabonac Protection Committee, examines the American obsession with the perfect lawn and its environmental consequences.
The panelists, who will discuss the film and answer questions afterward, will include Peconic Baykeeper Kevin McAllister, Westhampton-based landscaper Suzanne Ruggles, also known as “The Barefoot Gardener,” and Beth Fiteni, program director of the Sustainability Institute of Molloy College.
The forum will be taped by SEA-TV for later televised viewing on Southampton Town’s Channel 22. For additional information, call the League of Women Voters at 329-1830, or the Hampton Library at 537-0015.
