Marjorie Marie Brinkley

Margorie Marie Brinkley died at her home in Sag Harbor on September 9. She was 81 and the mother of model and actress Christie Brinkley.

Born in Monroe, Michigan on September 23, 1930, she had lived in California, Hawaii and East Hampton before settling in Sag Harbor with her husband, award-winning television writer Donald Brinkely, who died in July.

According to survivors, the couple was happily married for 50 years. Ms. Brinkley was proud of her husband’s success.

Ms. Brinkley survived eight strokes, three heart attacks and numerous complications for the past 10 years, earning the nickname “Miracle Marge” for her positive spirit and ability to defy the odds, survivors said. The battle became all the more difficult with the death of her beloved husband.

She is survived by her daughter, Christie; a son, Gregory; five grandchildren, Alexa Ray Joel, Ian Amadeo, Jack Paris, Elliott Marie and Sailor Lee; a brother, James Bowling; and a sister, Juanita Keefe. She was predeceased by five siblings, William Bowling, Glen Bowling, Bea Atkins, Betty Crabtree and Ethel McLaughlin.

A tree planting ceremony will take place in the spring in Sag Harbor to honor Donald Alan Brinkley and Marjorie Marie Brinkley.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Yardley and Pino Funeral Home in Sag Harbor.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, www.aha.org.
