Florence DePetrisFlorence DePetris of Bridgehampton died on July 1 at Southampton Hospital from natural causes. She was 90.
Ms. DePetris, known as “Flo” by her dear friends, was born in Astoria on February 27, 1926, to Peter and Florence Nardo. She married Francis P. DePetris in 1944 and moved to Bridgehampton shortly thereafter, where she managed the DePetris Food Market. She quickly became a highly active member of the community.
An avid reader, she served as president of the Board of Trustees to the Hampton Library in Bridgehampton for many years, a position that illustrated her passion for books of all genres and her love of the community.
She was the matriarch of her family, someone who constantly took on a highly supportive role and interest in the ambitions of her six grandchildren. She was a woman who could bring everyone together and make everyone feel a little bit better. “It was simply impossible not to like her,” her family said.
Ms. DePetris is survived by her four children, Patricia Damiecki of Bridgehampton, Francis DePetris of Jamesport, Daniel DePetris of Sag Harbor, and Thomas DePetris of Saugerties; and her grandchildren.
Visitation was on Monday, July 4, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brockett Funeral Home in Southampton. Funeral services will occur on Tuesday, July 5, at 10:30 a.m. at the Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Church in Bridgehampton.
