Grace Hamor-Coady died peacefully on April 6 at her home in Westhampton Beach, surrounded by family and friends. She was 92.
She was born on March 30, 1932, in Hazelton, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Robert Christian Frick and Helen Ruth Vose. She attended Hazelton High School, then when the family moved to Lebanon, Pennsylvania, she attended school at Lebanon Valley Collage, where she received her degree in education. It was at Lebanon Valley Collage where she met her first husband, Ira Scott Hamor.
She completed her education with a master’s degree in education from Long Island University.
She was a passionate educator and taught elementary school in Greenport, Westhampton Beach, and Mastic, and finished her career as an educator/administrator in the East Moriches Union Free School District.
She was a long-time member of the Swordfish Beach Club, as well as the Westhampton Beach Country Club, where she was a member of the ladies nine-hole club, and where she attended the ladies weekly Maj Jong games.
After her husband Scott Hamor’s death, she married Edwin Coady, and they happily became “snowbirds,” buying a condo in Vero Beach, living along with many other close Long Island friends.
She is survived by her three sons, Scott L. Hamor and wife Joanne of Kingston, New Hampshire, Edwin C. Hamor and wife Lori of Calverton, and Michael W. Hamor and wife Anita of Westhampton Beach; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Family services were held on April 10 at the Werner Rothwell Funeral Home in Westhampton Beach. The family will host a celebration of life reception at a time and place to be announced this summer.
Besides her family, her great love was for her longtime standard poodle companion, Tempo. In lieu of flowers, she has asked for donations to be sent to either the ASPCA (aspca.org) or the East End Hospice (eeh.org).
